The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is a regional public transportation authority that operates bus, rapid transit, commuter rail, light rail, and electric trolleybus services for nearly 4 million people in five counties in and around Philadelphia. It also manages projects that maintain, replace, and expand its infrastructure, facilities, and vehicles.

The Problem

SEPTA was looking to upgrade the T12 linear fluorescent lamps on their underground platforms for their metro Philadelphia subway system. Their desire was to implement a system that would reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs, as well as improve the lighting conditions on the platforms for passenger comfort and safety.

The Solution

  • 80 watt 8ft T12 linear fluorescent lamps replaced with 30 watt LED linear lamps
  • 48 watt 4ft T12 linear fluorescent lamps replaced with 15 watt LED linear lamps
  • 28 watt 2ft T12 linear fluorescent lamps replaced with 8 watt LED linear lamps
